In case you are wondering, this is the official church of satan's response to the Scott Peterson case:

Over the past several weeks I have been commenting during radio interviews on the attempts by Scott Petersons defense attorneys to revive the long-debunked Satanic Panic as a means for providing some kind of alternative theory regarding the murder of Laci Peterson. Clearly, this concept is absurd, as the local police dont allow known murderous cults to simply operate with impunity. The existence of such cults has long been demonstrated to be the stuff of urban legend. And, as Satanists know, sacrifice is not a part of our philosophy or practices.

About two weeks ago I spoke to a producer for a talk show on MSNBC, who wanted me in the studio that very night for a live show. I told him that the allegation that some locally known cult was responsible was hogwash. He seemed fine with that position. I then explained that December 24th, the date of the murder, meant nothing to real Satanists, and for us it simply is a day when we watch with amusement many Christians going into hock to buy gifts as obligations for this consumer-culture holiday. That seemed fine as well. I further explained that the only religion to whom this day had any deeper significance was Christianity, with its central myth placing emphasis on sacrifice, and that perhaps if there were any cultists it would be Christians, not Satanists, who would be prone to such behavior. The producer then said something along the lines of That isnt something theyll want to hear. Ill have to get back to you. And of course, he didnt, as this was apparently far too disturbing a thought for the producer and the conservative host of the show to have uttered before the public.

Various local radio talk show hosts around the country have not shared this fear.

Weve recently noted rumors that the Peterson defense team may decide to bring Ted Gunderson on board as an authority. In our opinion, such an act will certainly serve the prosecutors, as this former Geraldo staple has long been considered by skeptics to be a conspiracy obsessed crack-pot who has promoted cult fantasies for reality.

As always, the Church of Satan continues to work with law enforcement around the globe to interpret and provide expert witnesses concerning Satanism as well as symbolism and activities which might prove germane to cases under investigation.
