Yay, Death Penalty

I've been reading some of the presidential hopefuls' political positions, and I think it's going to be a very interesting race. What I don't understand though, is this: How can anyone fully support abortion, the killing of an innocent life, and oppose the death penalty? I'm not saying "Yay death penalty!" I'm just wondering why it's ok to approve slaughtering babies but spare convicted felons from paying for their crimes. I guess we could say that the babies are paying. yeah. It all evens out that way.
